Rear door carriers and bike racks

Dirty, wet and bulky gear rides outside on the back doors, freeing up space inside the van, with minimal effect on your gas mileage.

Gear on the doors, not inside

Bikes and dirty gear eat interior space. A rear-door carrier moves them outside and swings with the door so you can still get in the back. We install carriers, bike racks, boxes and tire carriers from Owl Vans, Aluminess, Avatar Offroad, Flatline Van Co and Tec Vanlife, with 1UP trays for bikes.

Most rear-door carriers need 180 degree hinges. Many factory Class B vans ship with them; other vans may need the hinge swap.

How we do it

  1. Check hinges

180 degree hinges confirmed, or swapped.

  2. Mount

Carrier attached to the door hardware per the maker's instructions.

  3. Tubes, trays, boxes

Bike mount tubes, 1UP trays and boxes fitted.

  4. Align

Adjusted and torqued so nothing shifts or rattles.

  5. Road test

Latches, stops and parking sensors checked.

What to know before you buy

Hinges first

Most rear-door carriers need 180 degree hinges. Aluminess also fits 270s.

Tray choice

1UP trays mount on Owl's horizontal tubes, two trays per pair.

Length and sensors

Carriers add length and can trip parking sensors.

Security

Plan locks for bikes and boxes left on the back.

Questions about rear carriers

Do I need new hinges?

If your van has 270 degree hinges, yes. Many Revels and Storytellers already have 180s.

B2 Pro or Sherpa?

B2 Pro for a box and bikes together and heavier loads. Sherpa for lighter, vertical bike setups.

Can I use my existing 1UP trays?

Yes, on Owl's horizontal bike mount tubes.

Will it rattle?

Not when it's aligned and torqued properly. That's most of the job.
